Nugget Market Associate Wins Nation’s Best Bagger Competition
DAVIS, Calif. (February 27, 2025) – For the second time in the last four years, a Nugget Market associate has won the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship in Las Vegas. Sebastian Moretti beat out 18 competitors over the course of two rounds of competition to win the national title. Moretti joins fellow Nugget Market associate, Alexa Sobsey, as the grocer’s two national champions. Interestingly, Moretti and Sobsey, who won the championship in 2022, work at the same Nugget Market in Davis on Covell Boulevard.
For Moretti, who won $10,000 along with the title, the championship marked a notable chapter in his long relationship with Nugget Market. He originally began going to the store on Covell Boulevard as a youngster shopping with his parents. After graduating from Davis High School two years ago, he began working at the same store on Covell while starting college studies. Now, he walks into the same store as the nation’s best bagger!

He was poised and confident on the big stage, and used his training and skill to earn the win,” said Greg Hill, President and CEO of Nugget Market, Inc. The Best Bagger Championship features a head-to-head, bracket-style competition amongst the best grocery baggers from across the country. To qualify for Las Vegas, Sebastian had to win a number of competitions within Nugget Market to originally qualify. The competitors are judged on time, bag weight and packing skills.
