We can’t provide world-class service without our associates, and we can’t be a sustainable business without our green gurus! To be a sustainable business, we SEE sustainability, or look at the Social, Environmental and Economic implications of our business decisions. Our sustainability coordinator and her team of green gurus create a culture of sustainability here at Nugget Markets and oversee our stores’ sustainability best practices. Let us introduce you to a few of them!
Danielle M., Green Guru, Davis, Mace: As our resident administrative assistant, bookkeeper, Communication Task Force member and green guru, Danielle is one of the best people to have on our team! She started with the company three years ago and continually raises our standard to the next level. Have you ever walked into the store and were blown away by the decorations or the festivity in the air? That’s Danielle! Though she’s new to the green leadership team, she has immediately stepped forward as a leader. The team looks to her for her creative solutions and her positive attitude. When Danielle isn’t working you can find her crocheting an infinity scarf for the cool weather.
Sara W., Green Guru, West Sacramento: Sara is the Swiss army knife of grocery! Though her title is administrative assistant, you’ll rarely find her at her desk as she’s always on the move and finding ways to better support her team. Sara began as a green guru a couple years ago and since then she is the reason her store has maintained such a strong sustainability culture. You can stop and ask nearly any associate and they will be able to tell you proudly how they SEE sustainability in their departments. When Sara isn’t working, she’s enjoys finding a quiet place to camp or go for a hike.
Jake T., Green Guru, Elk Grove: Jake may serve up our delicious meals while he’s acting as chef in our kitchen, but when he’s out on the floor, he’s serving up sustainability with spunk! Even in his short 1½ years with us, the store has grown under his leadership. He makes engaging in sustainability fun and rewarding for all of his associates. He’s there for his team when they have any questions and he’s never shy about getting into the recycling to sort out the contaminants. When Jake isn’t working, you can find him building up some black gold compost in his backyard or going on trips with his wife and kids.
Nelson R., Green Guru, Novato: Nelson is the green guru you can always count on! He started with the company three years ago and has maintained his steady, hardworking, positive attitude no matter what is thrown his way. He has been a green guru for a couple years, and though he was completely new to the ideas at the beginning, he has quickly learned the nuances and been able to pass that knowledge on to his team. His favorite green moment was winning the Nugget Markets quarterly award for most sustainable store! “It was a huge honor that the whole team earned by doing the little things right each day,” he said. When Nelson isn’t working, you can catch him doing extreme sports like skydiving or mountain climbing.
Have you met the green guru at your local store? They’re always happy to help answer questions or talk about sustainability with guests and associates alike!
