Did you know that today’s well-known Kombucha drink is actually a natural folk remedy that has been in existence for more than 2,000 years? It got its name from a Korean physician, Dr. Kombu, who treated Emperor Inkyo with this fermented tea or “Cha” from China, thus Kombu + Cha = Kombucha.

Made with tea (usually green or black), organic sugar and a live kombucha culture, this popular health beverage is thought to help stimulate metabolism and maintain a healthy immune system. Don’t be scared by the SCOBY – a rubbery disk-like substance that floats in Kombucha. The Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeasts (SCOBY) feeds on the sugar to produce all the nutrients, such as amino acids, vitamins and lactic acids contained in this beverage.
Feeling adventurous? Make your very own Kombucha. Find the Oregon Kombucha Starter Kit in our tea aisle. Before you know it, you’ll have a gallon of homemade Kombucha. The kit includes tea and live culture!
