If you’ve picked up a magazine or gone online in the last 12 months, you’re well used to seeing turmeric everywhere. Oregon’s Wild Harvest utilizes it in a standardized extract as the main ingredient in their TurmeriPro. Turmeric is lauded for its inflammatory modulating properties and may help muscle stiffness on those days when you’ve hit the trail a bit too hard. Bromelain is included to help with swelling and reduce stiffness, and citrus bioflavinoids are added to boost the performance of the bromelain and turmeric.
How about a product that does double duty? Topricin’s MyPainAway addresses muscle and joint pain with ingredients such as arnica, magnesium and aesculus, but also wants to help with chapped or itching skin with calendula and sulfur. A blend of 17 homeopathic medicines, MyPainAway’s aim is to deal with all of the ouches that come with being active.
If you happen to overdo it (hey, it happens!), nothing beats a nice hot bath with Epsom salts. One to two cups of Saltworks Ultra Epsom in a hot bath work great, but if you want to up the wow factor, add in 5 drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oils. Soak for at least 12 minutes and no longer than 20 minutes and let the hot water and the magnesium sulfate work their wonders on those muscles.
With a little care those muscles will be ready to hit the trail again in no time!
