Buffalo Wings: Chicken Wings are the ultimate football party food, and when it comes to pairings, it’s more about the spicy sauce than the savory meat. Buffalo wings have big, brash flavors that need an equally brazen beer to tackle them, like an American IPA. This bitter brew will wash the palate clean of the oils that set your mouth ablaze. The Pizza Port Dr. Swami’s IPA is what we’re putting in our game day lineup. A quintessential West Coast IPA with fresh bitterness of citrus and pine is great defense to combat the rich, spicy buffalo sauce, and goes great with the blue cheese dip as well.
BBQ: Sausages, hot links and other barbecue classics are always a tailgating favorite. Whether you’re at the stadium or in your own home, a dark German Lager is the winning play to call. The Erdinger Brewery has been winning over fans’ taste buds since 1886. Their Dunkel is a dark wheat beer with hints of caramel, roasted nuts and baked bread. The Hallertau hops provide just enough bitterness, and the medium carbonation gives it a rich creamy mouthfeel.
7-Layer Dip: No football fete is complete without some form of chips and dip. The Trumer Pilsner has just enough hoppy kick to match the textures and flavors of this classic dish. The nice crisp, clean finish will help wash away the thick beans, guacamole and cheese. The latest addition to the Sierra Nevada lineup, Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, boasts light honey and orange oil tones that also provide a nice, mild sweetness to match the richly textured dish. Instant replay clearly shows a touchdown.
