Extra, Extra! Teaming up to help Marin

When there’s more than enough to go around, why is it that food waste and hunger can coexist? That’s the question ExtraFood is answering with their food recovery program in Marin County, and at Nugget Markets, we are so excited to be a part of it.

When there’s more than enough to go around, why is it that food waste and hunger can coexist? That’s the questionExtraFood is answering with their food recovery program in Marin County, and at Nugget Markets, we are so excited to be a part of it.

ExtraFood connects organizations that have excess food with local nonprofits that help those in need. A team of volunteers delivers the donated items to recipients like after school, housing and community service programs within 30 minutes of pickup.

Thanks to this program, Nugget Markets is able to donate bakery items, produce and other foods nearing their expiration dates instead of creating food waste. During the transition of our newest stores in Marin County, we worked with ExtraFood to donate thousands of pounds of bulk foods and produce to local recipients!

We’re proud to be in partnership with ExtraFoods, and look forward to working together even more in the coming year.
