Wine Steward Steve Graham may not always have been an expert in fine wine and cuisine, but he has long been employed in the food industry. Take his first job: “I was the Chief French Fryer at Herfy’s in the newly opened Sunrise Mall,” Steve says. Today, Steve has graduated from fries to wines, completing his first-level training from the Court of Master Sommeliers, and also attaining a Certified Specialist of Wine designation from the Society of Wine Educators. As a wine steward with Nugget Markets for more than 15 years, Steve has lots of expertise to share: for instance, Steve says, if you want to find a great wine in California, follow the wine maker. “He or she will have the biggest influence on the final product,” Steve says. “California has ripe fruit every year. It’s what the winemaker does with it, from the vineyard to the barrel room, that will determine what goes into the bottle.”
